Take a trip on the heritage steam train as it winds its way over the heather laced moorland from Whitby to the market town of Pickering.
Or wander along the Cinder Track, a disused railway line. It runs from Whitby to Scarborough via Robin Hood Bay and Ravenscar.
Visit ancient woodlands such as Falling Foss or Dalby Forest .
Around 6 miles from the town of Whitby is Falling Foss waterfall, a stunning 30-foot waterfall and area of woodland to explore.
Dalby Forest is home to over 8,500 acres of breath-taking views, endless walking, running and cycle trails and Gruffalo adventures.
If you are water lovers then make sure you visit Whitby Surf School. You can either hire equipment or take lessons in surfing or paddleboarding.

If you don't fancy getting wet, take a trip on one of the many tour boats moored at Whitby.
You may get to see dolphins, seals or, if you are really lucky, whales.
Take day trip to Scarborough. Visit the Peasholm Parks oriental gardens. Take a pedalo around the lake Wander around the castle and the grounds. Choose between the South or the North bay - or explore them both.
Alpamare water park and the Spa are a must on rainy days.
From time immemorial the North York moors have provided a wealth of minerals, such as alum, iron, coal and jet and quarrying (for stone, sands and gravel). It has left its mark on the landscape. The Woodsmith mine near Whitby will produce 20 million tonnes a year of polyhalite, potash and POLY4 and is projected as contributing over £100 billion for the UK economy over a period of 50 years.
